Layering your Life into Your Home

"One of the most asked questions I get is:

‘Where do I start when decorating?

It’s a good question — and an honest one. Starting can feel overwhelming, especially when your space is blank, busy, or just not reflecting you. Between Pinterest boards, paint swatches, and the pressure to "get it right," it’s easy to feel stuck before you even begin.

But here’s what I always say:

Start with how you want to feel in your home.

Start with you.

Do you want your home to feel calm? Creative? Energizing? Grounding?
That feeling becomes your foundation — and every design decision should lead you back to it.

Because the truth is, decorating isn’t just about filling a space.
It’s about laying your life into your home.

It’s about creating a place that reflects your story, your rhythm, and your values. It’s the way your favorite mug always lives on the counter, the soft throw you reach for every night, the color on the walls that makes you exhale the moment you walk in.

So if you're asking, “Where do I start?”
Start with how you live. Start with how you feel.

And then — layer in the rest.

Your home should tell your story.
There’s beauty in layering your life into your space—mixing meaningful heirloom pieces, one-of-a-kind antiques, and personal treasures that reflect your history, values, and dreams.

It’s not about perfection—it's about presence. Every patina, every worn edge, every story passed down through generations adds depth and soul to your home. Let your space evolve with you. Seek out pieces that speak to you, not just fill a room.

This week on Instagram I shared a piece in our home that’s meaningful to me. An antique pie Safe cupboard from a farmhouse I found at an antique fair. Inside of it is amber and rose glassware on display. My grandfather recently passed away and it means so much to me to have these pieces.

Traditionally used in farmhouse kitchens, pie safes were designed with vented sides, often made of tin or punched metal, to allow airflow while keeping baked goods cool and protected from pests.

This one holds that heritage beautifully, with warm aged wood, simple lines, and those iconic side vents that once cooled pies on a summer afternoon. Whether you use it to store linens, dishes, or as a statement pantry, it brings a sense of history and grounded charm into your home. It’s a piece that tells a story — practical, timeless, and full of character.
